Setting Up Your Blog

Once your blog has been activated by the network administrator you will receive an email with your username and password.

A fresh blog will have one example post, a contact form, and one example page.

New Posts

The first post called “Hello World” can be deleted and replaced with your first blog post.

To create a new blog post click “Add New”.  This will take you the form to add a new post like the one below.

Using the form, enter the title of your post, then add the content of your post through the larger box below it.

Images

To add images to your post, click on the first square box next to “Upload/Insert”.

This will bring up a box like the one below.  To upload an image click “Select Files” and browse your computer for the image you would like to upload.  You can select more than one image in the same folder at the same time by holding down the shift key while clicking on the files.

Once the images have been uploaded a new box will appear like the one below.

Using this form you can change the image’s title, include alternative text, add a caption that will appear under the image in your post, and add a description.

You can select the alignment you would like to have the image inserted as and also what size you would like it to appear.

You can ignore all these options if they are not important to you.

When you are ready, click “Insert into Post” and you will be taken back to the post form where you can continue editing your post.

The first image in your post will be used as a thumbnail.

Categories

When you are writing a new post, on the right hand side there is a box called “Categories”.  Tick the box for the category  you would like your post to be in.  You can select more than one category, though please do not abuse this feature by adding your post to all categories.

There are five default categories on the network you can add your posts to.

  • News – For general news and updates.
  • Events – Doing an exhibition or holding an event? Keep the world updated through this section.
  • Gallery – You’ve got a new paintings? Excellent!  Show off your work through the Gallery section.
  • Headlines – This section is for extra special news that your would like to highlight.  More information on this section is below.
  • Erotic Art – For anything that doesn’t fit in the other categories

You can create new categories if you like, though we recommend sticking to these 5 general categories so your posts can be appropriately indexed by the network.

Headlines

Headlines is a special category you can use to highlight posts.  If you include a post in the Headlines category it will appear at the top of the page in the Headlines box shown below.

Publish

If you would like to see how your post will look before you publish it, click “Preview” and this will open a new window show how your post will look.  To continue editing, just close this window.

When you are done editing your new post click “Publish” and your post will be live!  If you would like to save your post, but don’t want it to go live yet, click “Save Draft” and your post will be saved for editing later, but won’t be visible to visitors on your blog.

Pages

From your control panel you can edit the example page to something more appropriate for your blog like an “About Us” page.  You can also create more pages if you need them.
